What Are The Water Quality Monitoring Projects?
Apr 10, 2025| Water quality testing projects can be divided into the following four categories according to their uses, covering key evaluation standards for different water bodies such as drinking water, industrial water, and agricultural irrigation water:
1. Physical indicators
Reflect the sensory characteristics and basic physical properties of water bodies, including:
Color: Noticeable above 15 degrees, disgusting above 30 degrees (standard limit ≤15 degrees)
Turbidity: An important indicator for measuring clarity, a decrease means a decrease in microorganisms (standard limit ≤1 NTU)
Temperature, Transparency, Conductivity: Affect aquatic ecosystems and chemical reactions
Smell and taste: Sensory indicators that directly determine the source of pollution

2. Chemical indicators
Evaluate the chemical composition and pollution level of water bodies. The core items include:
pH value: affects biological survival and chemical reactions (drinking water standard 6.5-8.5)
Dissolved oxygen (DO): key to maintaining the survival of aquatic organisms
Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD): reflect the degree of organic pollution
Ammonia nitrogen, Total phosphorus, Total nitrogen: main indicators of eutrophication
Heavy metals (such as lead, mercury, cadmium): industrial pollution markers
3. Biological indicators
Detect microbial pollution risks, focusing on:
Total colony count: drinking water standard ≤100/mL
Total coliform group: fecal pollution indicator bacteria (limit ≤3/L)
Thermotolerant coliform group: more accurate fecal pollution indicator
4. Specific pollutant indicators
Special tests for different purposes, such as:
Radioactive indicators (α/β rays)
Organic pollutants (such as pesticide residues, polychlorinated biphenyls)
