How often is water quality monitored?

Mar 09, 2025|

Depends on the type of water supply
The frequency of water quality monitoring needs to be differentiated according to the type of water supply, testing links and scale:

I. Secondary water supply monitoring
Core frequency: once every six months
According to the "Regulations on the Supervision and Management of Drinking Water Hygiene" and the requirements of hygiene regulations, the cleaning and disinfection of secondary water supply facilities must be carried out simultaneously with water quality testing to ensure the safety of water for high-level users.
II. Urban centralized water supply system
Raw water and factory water
Daily testing of 9 basic indicators (such as turbidity, residual chlorine, etc.)
Carry out 43 full-indicator tests every month
Perform 97 in-depth tests every year
Pipeline terminal water
7 basic tests twice a month (such as total bacterial count, total coliform group, etc.)
43 full-indicator tests once a month
III. Village and town water supply
Groundwater source
Type I~III (large-scale): test once a week
Type IV (medium-scale) : Once a month
Type V (small scale): Once a quarter
Surface water source
Type I~III: Detect once a day
Type IV~V: Once a month or once a quarter
Territorial water
Type I~III: Twice a month
Type IV: Once a month
Type V: Once a quarter
Summary: The frequency of water quality monitoring needs to be combined with specific scenarios. Secondary water supply is tested once every six months. Urban water supply is tested in layers by day/month/year. Village and town water supply is implemented differently according to the type and scale of water source.
